High School Musical 3

I recently got some friends together and we went to see High School Musical 3. It just so happened that the theater decorated the entire place with lockers and Wildcats memorabilia. (Quick side note, this theater is amazing because it’s all digital, there are never massive throngs of people, and the people that work there always do something special. For The Dark Knight everyone dressed as the Joker).

Now before I start with my review of the movie I think it’s only fair to explain that my favorite movies are both random and absurd. Some of my top movies being Muppet Treasure Island and the Charlie’s Angels movies. I say this because some of you will probably not like this movie. But you’re probably the same people who refused to see the other two, so I’ll move on.

The third (and hopefully final) movie of High School Musical is amazing! Now I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t go into full detail about the movie, but needless to say everything in the movie is taken to the umpth degree. In other words the movie is over the top, and that’s why I love it. Just about every song and dance number in the movie were spectacular and funny. There’s loads of odd sexual tension and innuendos if you look for them. If you haven’t seen the movie and like to play drinking games, I would suggest taking a shot every time someone tries to graze Vanessa Hudgensen’s boobs, because just about everyone does at one point or another.

While watching the movie, the theater almost completely to ourselves…which if it had been empty, we would have no doubt started to dance. Most of us were theater kids at one point. Sadly a small group of people sat behind us and we didn’t want to detract from their movie. I did however wear a red baseball shirt and jeans…something Troy wears while he’s climbing over auditorium chairs. So I was encouraged by my friends to do the same. And I did.

Now I had gotten the soundtrack some days earlier and already decided the song “I Want It All” would be my favorite song, since Ryan and Sharpay’s songs are always the most over the top. But I was oh so wrong. Just about every song after that was even more over the top! Songs like “Scream” and “The Boys are Back” were definite highlights.

Okay so in the spirit of not wanting to ruin anything, and also trying to convince you to give the movie a chance, I’m going to stop here and tell you to just go see it. If you like theater, if you like random, if you like absurd, this movie is for you.

Now for just a few brief cons. The new secondary characters they added into the movie were all incredibly lame and served no purpose. But they are just a slight hiccup in an incredible movie. One more thing…can Disney just be honest with us and have Ryan end up with a guy. The stereotypes and hidden signs are all there and you aren’t fooling anybody.
